Here we have a very nice First World War Verdun Medal that is in excellent condition. It is the original “Vernier” type planchet suspended from the original red ribbon. It is mounted on a U.S. type full wrap broach that is complete with functional pin and roller lock assemblies.
The Battle of Verdun fought from 21 February to 18 December 1916, was the largest and longest battle of the First World War on the Western Front between the German and French armies. The Verdun Medal was created 20 November 1916, for issue to the soldiers who fought in the battle for Verdun from February to November 1916. They were awarded by the town of Verdun itself to Allied servicemen who fought between the Argonne and St. Mihel and as such, many American soldiers came back with this medal.
