This is a very fine First World War Imperial German Prussian Iron Cross 1st Class in its presentation case that is in excellent condition. The cross is in beautifully vaulted possessing a stove black, magnetic iron center and an attractively age toned silver frame. The iron center exhibits some thinning of the black finish but there is no rust present. The raised, serrated bead on the frame is very well defined and with crisp detail. The reverse is with the original wide pin that is clearly marked with the “800” silver content number. The case is constructed of wood with the exterior covered in textured maroon faux leatherette and functional push spring closure button. The top has a silhouette of the Iron Cross embossed in gold leaf that, along with the paper hinge, remains 100% intact. The interior of the lid is lined in white satin and the cross rests on a base of plush purple velvet that is cut out for the pin assembly. A truly beautiful example.
