Description

This is a World War I U.S. Purple Heart Medal that is in excellent condition. It is one of the first issued pieces that was awarded retroactively in 1932 to U.S. servicemen for wounds received in the First World War. The planchet is with undamaged enamel and with the Washington coat of arms applied as a separate piece. The lower edge is impressed with the number, “49630”. It is suspended from the original, slightly worn ribbon and mounted on a split broach that is with functional pin assembly. The reverse is hand engraved with the name of the recipient, “Roscoe Chinn” who saw service with the 9th Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Division during the First World War.
